our first grade program
Religion
The focus for First Graders in religion is family, God’s love for each of us and kindness. We discuss Jesus and his family, read Bible stories and use other books and materials including God’s Paintbrush by Sandy Eisenburg Sasso. This book describes our relationship with God in broad terms and invites the children to respond to questions such as, “How do you dance with God?” and “How are we God’s hands and feet?” Throughout the year, we gather by reading a short selection from God’s Paintbrush and encourage each child to share a response. We then move into the main lesson for the day.
