Religion

Responsibility is a main theme of the Sixth Grade Religion class as students explore the essential questions, “How can stories foster change?” “How are beliefs sustained over time?” and “How can I be more responsible?” Students study the New Testament, particularly the Four Gospels and the parables. They prepare and present a parable to the class in order to better understand how these stories were a major teaching tool for Jesus. The year concludes with an introduction to the church in the Middle Ages and how Martin Luther’s reform effort fractured the powerful Roman Catholic Church in Europe.  Texts include the Book of Common Prayer, Talking Peace, the Bible, My Friends’ Beliefs: A Young Reader’s Guide to World Religions, Spy for the Night Rider, and Place at the Table, Struggles for Equality in America.
