Preschool and Prekindergarten
Children in the Preschool and the Prekindergarten classes are not required to wear uniforms to school. We believe play is a child’s work. During play a child can become quite messy even with the most diligent use of smocks. Paints (even washable ones), magic markers, clay, playdoh, soapy water play, sand and dirt all can stain clothing. Please keep this in mind as you and your child choose school clothing. Comfortable play clothes are always the best option. Of course, on special days when dress clothing may be worn, such as picture day and special party days, we will not have messy activities available.
Please provide comfortable, sensible shoes and socks for your child each day. Children in Prekindergarten and Kindergarten classes are required to wear sneakers and socks for Physical Education. With the advent of so many stylish shoes for children we have noticed that some shoes are hazardous during play. We very strongly discourage wearing sandals, crocs and clogs to school. These cause discomfort on the playground as children get playground “bits” under their feet, and they can be very slippery in wet weather. Sneakers are always a safe shoe choice. Of course, choice of footwear can become a battle at home when you’re child is getting dressed. If this happens, you may allow your child to select a particular pair of shoes and simply pack the sneakers in the backpack. During inclement weather, please have your child wear boots to school and send a pair of shoes in his/her tote bag to change into when the boots inevitably become too hot. We request that children wear socks with all footwear.
We understand that dressing appropriately while dressing oneself sometimes causes some friction in families. Please alert your child’s teacher if you are working on this issue so that we can work together. It is our goal that all children dress appropriately for school and the weather conditions. Please be sure to label ALL clothing and shoes with your child’s name.
Early Childhood students are required to purchase a St. Anne’s School t-shirt, available at school, to be worn on field trips. Please contact Prekindergarten teacher Krista Spradlin to obtain a t-shirt.
Lower and Middle School
Students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade are required to wear uniforms. The policies and ordering options are included below.
